Neurotree growth.
This chart shows the number of people added to Neurotree each quarter since it was created in January 2005. It's not clear if the annual cycle of slow-Q1 and quick-Q4 growth that showed up in the first few years is persisting. But in any case, it seems we haven't quite run out of neuroscientists yet. Of course, that hasn't stopped us from casting the net wider with trees for other fields. The more general academictree.org effort provides the exciting opportunity to connect genealogies across academia. The early spikes in the other-tree data reflect the addition of big new data sets (Flytree, Q2 2008; Marine Ecology Q4 2009), but more recently growth has been spread over many trees. If your non-neuroscientist friends are jealous of Neurotree, have them contact us to set up a tree of their own.

Node vs. connection growth
It's also interesting to compare the rate of growth of nodes vs. connections. So far, they've grown at a similar pace, but as the tree is getting larger, the number of new connections seems to be gradually outpacing the number of new nodes.
